SENIORARK ENTHUSIASTICALLY ENDORSES OBAMA - BIDEN

October, 2008 - For SENIORS, the choice could not be clearer, or more important. SeniorArk enthusiastically endorses Barack Hussein Obama for President of the United States. A McCain-Palin administration could well be a disaster for Seniors. We cannot remain quiet any longer. Based on your comments, what we have heard from the candidates, and what appears to be of the greatest benefit to America's Senior community, we endorse Barack Obama and Joe Biden for President and Vice President.

WHY?

We asked for your opinion on the 2008 Presidential race, and we were overwhelmed by your responses (Reader Opinions). We heard your hopes, desires, needs, and pain. Thank you so much. As editor, I have read and reread every one of them, and responded to each of you personally. How wonderful that we live in a nation where we can so freely express our opinions without fear. In America, our ultimate political opinion is expressed in the privacy of the voting booth. What an awesome privilege. That is where the talking stops, and the power of one precious vote begins. But we must be informed voters.

For SENIORS, the choice could not be clearer, or more important. SeniorArk enthusiastically endorses Barack Obama for President of the United States. From financial matters, to senior security, to moral standing in the world, to healthcare, it is a time for serious change in America. The Republicans have controlled the presidency for eight years, and the congress for twelve of the last fourteen years. They have gotten things into a helleva mess. Government size, and national debt, have soared to record levels during this period. The world's confidence in our ability to run an economy has so deteriorated, the dollar has been sinking steadily on a slippery slope. Some have said that fully 40% of the increase in oil prices is due to the devalued dollar, not increased demand. We are in a needless war that has not improved our national security, has drained our treasure, killed over 4,000 Americans, not to mention untold numbers of innocents in Iraq. We are no longer the moral example that the world once looked up to. And John McCain voted YES to the Bush policies that have gotten us into this mess, 90 to 95% of the time. For Seniors, and 95% of all Americans, the Bush/McCain/Palin platform sounds like a mournful echo of the past . They cannot possibly win the election on issues, so their campaign is being waged on personality, misstatement, sarcasm, fear.

So when I hear that we need change from the lips of a Republican who has been a part of the Washington Congressional establishment for three decades, and whose votes are hardly distinguishable from the Bush policies, I am skeptical to say the least. McCain calls himself a maverick. Exactly what IS a maverick, and is that what we really need at this critical time? That may once have been true, but no longer. For the past decade, at least, McCain has caved in to war, national debt, surrender of personal freedoms, failure to build up the overwhelming mass of Americans, and he has been no friend to Seniors.

I have heard foolish comments on the endless cable TV shows asking things like, "Who would you most like to have a beer with", or "Which candidate would you rather go fishing with?". "Which candidate would stop to help you change a tire?. Who is most like ME?"  These were also the kinds of questions we were asked before George Bush was elected---twice!  Been there, done that, failed.

I don't want a candidate who looks like me, or who would buy me a beer. And I don't want a vice president who just seems the most "charming".  This is not a "miss congeniality" contest. Not in this critical election. Palin has been a brilliant distraction from the reality of the last 8 years. But not in this election. We won't buy a distraction. It is far too critical for that. We need leaders who are smart enough to get a grip on the awesome challenges facing us in 2009, and who have the drive and energy to get them done. And Palin, a very charming young woman, grossly misrepresents her very brief record in Alaska, a state with a smaller population than Memphis, TN, but with per-person earmark requests that are the absolute highest of any of the 50 states. Palin is not what she appears to be, and must be unmasked. Her canned speeches prove out to be largely expressing falsehoods. The Republican campaign is operating on the principle that if you say things loudly enough, cleverly enough, and often enough, the masses will buy it.

After seeing the Katie Couric interview with Sarah Palin, it is beyond our imagination that anyone could vote for the Palin-McCain ticket. See it, and you decide. Her answer regarding her foreign policy expertise is critical.

In several sections, we have compared and discussed the Presidential Race, issue-by-issue, as it affects Seniors. We hope you will follow our investigations below.
