BOOMER HEALTH PACKAGE

Keep healthy as a senior by following the advice in a new package of publications from the U.S. government. The Senior Health package of publications are written with the baby boomers in mind; the first of this generation are now turning 60.

The publications, which cost a total of $5, can be obtained in three ways:

- Send your name, address, check or money order for the cost to Senior Health, Pueblo, CO 81009.

- Order online at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov.

- Call toll-free (888) 878-3256, weekdays 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and ask for Senior Health. Have your credit card handy.

The Senior Health package Pocket Guide to Staying Healthy at 50+ (Item 120N) and Questions & Answers About Arthritis and Exercise (Item 529N) are included in the package.

The package contains tips on maintaining good health and dealing with age-related health problems. These include controlling cholesterol and blood pressure levels, and how often one should be screened for certain cancers.

Having checkups and tests and getting shots can help prevent or control many diseases and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. The Senior Health package lists which ones you need and how often you need to get them.

If you're a bit disorganized or overwhelmed with medical information, the package can help you with charts where you can record your checkups, shots, test results and the drugs you are taking. Take these to the doctor's office to document your medical history, and you can update them with any new information.

Other information includes tips on how to lose weight by making small, easy changes to your lifestyle, and the best exercises for those with arthritis.
